Warriors Run Away From the Field in Illinois

Macomb, Ill. -- The Indian Hills Warriors used an impressive final 18 holes to crush the field in the Beu/Mussatto Invitational hosted by Western Illinois University.

Five IHCC golfers had sub-par totals in the final round as the Warriors blew away the other 13 teams -- all four-year schools -- to post their biggest win so far this spring.

Indian Hills trailed Western Illinois by five shots after the opening round, but took control with a 292 score in the second round, moving six strokes ahead of WIU, their closest competitor.

But the Warriors were just getting warmed up. They shot a 279 in the final round, 12 strokes better than the next-lowest score for the tourney as they wound up winning by a whopping 18 shots.

In an amazing show of strength, IHCC's Kevin Workman, Mitch Tucker, Ben Ludlam, William White and Jon Paul Blampied all came in under-par for the final 18 holes. Workman and Ludlam both fired four-under par 68s, White carded a 69 and Tucker and Blampied each tallied a one-under 71.

Monty Lack, who had his own 68 in the second round, posted a two-over par 74 for the Warriors.

Workman, who was competing as an individual, tied for second place with Indiana's Nicholas Grubnich at three-under par 213. The Hoosiers' Michael McGee was the medalist with a 212.

Tucker tied for 5th, Ludlam was 7th and White tied for 8th for IHCC.

Lack and Blampied both recovered nicely after opening-round 79s. Lack came right back for his 68 in Monday's second round. Blampied shaved four strokes off his score in each of the next two rounds.

Indian Hills will next be in action in the William Jewell Spring Invitational in Liberty, Missouri Apr. 12-13.
