OTTUMWA --- Two sophomore members of last year’s national championship Indian Hills Community College golf team signed letters-of-intent this week with NCAA Division I schools.
Mitch Tucker from Oskaloosa signed with University of Missouri-Kansas City and William White, who is from Waukegan, Ill., will continue his education and golf career close to home at Northern Illinois University.
Tucker has finished in the top eight in all three tourneys the Warriors have played in this spring. His best performance was a tie for third at the Beu/Mussatto. He was eighth and tied for eighth in the other two meets.
His freshman campaign saw Tucker with five top-five finishes, including three meets where he was second.
Tucker was one of three golfers representing NJCAA schools to be invited to play in the prestigious World University Golf Championship in Liberec, Czech Republic last June.
White is coming off his best tourney as a Warrior, tying for medalist honors at the Augustana Invitational this month. He tied for eighth in the previous meet.
A runnerup finish at the District Championship last spring, when he shot a 68 in the opening round, was his best result as a freshman and came after he was third at the Iowa/Kansas Clash.
“I’m excited and proud of what Mitch and William have accomplished during their Indian Hills career,” IHCC coach Mike Hagen said. “They both worked hard on their games. I’m happy both of them found an institution and golf program that meets their needs.”
Indian Hills is still ranked third in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches Poll. The Warriors will take part in the Iowa/Kansas Clash in Newton, Kansas next week.
