IHCC's Slattery to Play in World Championships

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills Community College golfer Kurt Slattery has been chosen to play in a prestigious international competition this summer. Slattery, an IHCC sophomore from Taylor Ridge, Illinois, will participate in the World University Golf Championships in June.
Slattery is expected to lead the Indian Hills golf team in its quest for an NJCAA Division I championship this spring. Shortly after the collegiate season ends, Slattery will compete in the international meet in Malaga, Spain June 7-11.
Slattery was one of six golfers chosen for the United States team with their selection based on individual records and national rankings in their respective organizations. He is one of three team members from two-year schools; the other three players are from NAIA colleges. One of the coaches is Jeff Griebel from St. Ambrose University in Davenport.
As a freshman, Slattery was the individual medalist in the Fun City Classic in Burlington and had eight top-ten finishes for Indian Hills in the fall and spring seasons.
Slattery won the Western Kansas Collegiate tournament this past fall and finished in the top ten in three meets to begin his sophomore year.
He has accepted a golf scholarship to Francis Marion University, an NCAA Division I school in Florence, South Carolina.
The World University Golf Championships are sponsored by the International University Sports Federation and are held every two years. The 2008 event was held in South Africa. The USA men’s team took fifth out of 14 countries.
