Warriors Notch First Win of Spring

Marion, Ill. -- The No. 1-ranked Indian Hills golf team picked up their first team win of the spring season by winning the six-team John A. Logan Invitational. The Warriors won all six meets in which they played in the fall campaign. They were 6th in their first competition this spring, against mostly four-year schools in a tourney in Texas.

The Warriors opened up an eight-stroke lead after the opening 18 holes of the Logan Invite, played over the par-71 Kokopelli Golf Course. They increased the margin to 11 strokes after the second round, firing a team total of 290 to go along with their 295 on the first day. The host school was the runnerup.

Steven Ihm, Zach Steffen and Dan Dawson finished second, third and fourth, respectively, for Indian Hills. Ihm shot a two-under par 69 in the final 18 holes, tied for the second-best round in the tourney. Steffen opened with a one-under 70 and Dawson rallied with a second-day 71, cutting five strokes off his opening-round performance.

Two Warriors showed marked improvement during the second round. Matt Solis shaved eight strokes off his first-day total and Monty Lack was even better than that, lowering his score by 16 shots. Each had a one-over 72 for the second 18 holes.

Indian Hills will travel to Meridian, Mississippi for the Lou Hart Invitational April 4-5.
