District Championship for the Warriors

Gothenburg, NE -- Indian Hills overcame a five-stroke deficit midway through the NJCAA District 3 Championship and edged Iowa Western by one shot for the district title.

Justin Weber's tap-in birdie on the final hole allowed Indian Hills to win the district meet with a 582 total. The Warriors posted a team score of 288 over the second 18 holes on Tuesday as the tourney was reduced to 36 holes. Action was postponed because of high winds on Monday and the format was switched from a 54-hole, two-day event to 36 holes in a single day.

Dan Dawson played a big role in the IHCC title. Dawson fired a three-under par 69 in the second round and tied for 3rd overall with an even-par total of 144.

Cameron Munro was 5th with rounds of 73 and 72.

Indian Hills had five golfers in the top nine, including Matt Solis who was playing as an individual and finished in a tie for 6th with teammate Zach Monson.

Weber, who nailed down the win, wound up tied for 8th place and his final-hole birdie gave him an even-par 72 for Tuesday's second round.

Indian Hills and Iowa Western were the two Iowa schools in the event. Dodge City led the seven other schools, all from Kansas. Dodge City was 3rd, 15 shots back of the winning Warriors.

Weber Leads Warriors to Easy Win

Ottumwa -- Playing their only home tournament of the spring, the Indian Hills golf team rolled to an easy victory in the Community 1st Credit Union Spring Invitational at the Ottumwa Country Club.

Justin Weber shot a sizzling 6-under par total of 210 to lead the Warriors to the first-place finish, a whopping 54 strokes ahead of second-place Iowa Western. Parkland CC rounded out the field and was another 15 shots behind Iowa Western.

Indian Hills' winning score of 851 was 13 shots under par on the par-72 course.

Weber opened the tourney with a five-under par round of 67 on Monday and followed with a three-under 69. A two-over par 74 Tuesday couldn't keep the IHCC sophomore from posting a two-shot win over teammate Kurt Slattery.

Indian Hills claimed the top four places on the leaderboard with Dan Dawson and Cameron Munro finishing behind Slattery.

Slattery's total included a 69 in the first round and Dawson had rounds of 72, 70 and 71.

Indian Hills is back in action next week at the NJCAA District III Championship in Gothenburg, Nebraska. That will be their final meet before the National Championship next month in Huntsville, Alabama.

Warriors Notch First Win of Spring

Decatur, Ill. -- After finishing second in their previous two meets, the Indian Hills Warriors broke through with a team title in the Big Blue Spring Classic Friday and Saturday. The meet was played at the Red Tail Run Golf Course and the Warriors defeated runnerup Millikin University by six strokes, 594-600.

Indian Hills grabbed a two-shot lead after the opening round and expanded it over the final 18 holes. The Warriors' first-round score of 291 was the best 18-hole total in a tourney that featured Indian Hills and a dozen four-year schools.

Three IHCC golfers finished in the top six, led by Justin Weber who tied for third place with a score of 147. Weber opened with an even-par 72 and shot a 75 on Saturday.

Cameron Munro and Kurt Slattery tied for 5th place at 148. Munro had rounds of 73 and 75 and Slattery had matching 74s.

Indian Hills' Dan Dawson had a solid opening round with an even-par 72 and wound up tied for 11th place.

The meet medalist was Wes Hillen of Millikin, the host school, who shot a 145.

Indian Hills is idle until hosting the Community 1st Credit Union Spring Invitational April 19-20.

Warriors Get 2nd Straight 2nd-Place Finish

Meridian, MS -- South Mountain CC made up a three-stroke deficit over the final 18 holes and grabbed the team title away from Indian Hills in the Lou Hart Invitational.

Indian Hills sprinted to a six-shot lead after the opening round, thanks in large part to a 2-under par 69 by Kurt Slattery. The IHCC score of 291 over the first 18 holes was the best round of the tourney.

South Mountain cut into the IHCC lead with a three-shot edge over the middle round and then finished with a round of 294 to notch the victory. Indian Hills closed with a 303 for a total of 895. South Mountain won the eight-team event with a score of 889. Darton CC was third, three shots behind the Warriors.

Justin Weber led the IHCC scoring with a total of 223 that left the IHCC sophomore alone in 8th place. He had rounds of 74, 74 and 75 on the par-71 Northwood CC course.

Zach Primavera of Central Alabama was the meet medalist with a three-under par 210. His first-round 69 tied IHCC's Slattery for the best round of the tournament.

Cameron Munro had the second-best score for Indian Hills -- a 224 -- one stroke ahead of teammate Dan Dawson. Slattery and Matt Solis tied at 226 as the Warriors had five golfers in the first 15 places, two more than any other school in the field.

Indian Hills returns to action April 9-10 at the Big Blue Spring Classic in Decatur, Illinois.
