Warriors Are 10th in First Spring Tourney

Granbury, Texas -- The Indian Hills golf team overcame a shaky performance on the first day to finish 10th at the season-opening Harbor Lakes Invitational. The Warriors, who were ranked 5th in the NJCAA Division I poll at the end of the fall campaign, improved their score by 15 strokes on Tuesday after struggling up and down the lineup in the first round on Monday.

The Warriors finished with a 625 total for 36 holes. That was 23 shots behind the team champ, McLennan CC from Texas, the No. 1-ranked team in the nation.

A 305 total for the second 18 holes for Indian Hills was 15 strokes better than IHCC's first-round total of 320 on the par-72 Harbor Lakes Golf Club course.

IHCC sophomore Justin Weber tied for 17th place, the best showing for the Warriors. Weber rebounded after an opening-round 79 to fire an even-par 72 on Tuesday, just one shot off the best score of the day, turned in by meet medalist Nathan Anderson of McLennan. Weber was seven-over for the tourney and 10 shots out of first place.

Weber was one of five Indian Hills golfers to improve their score in the second round. The biggest improvement was by sophomore Kurt Slattery whose second-round 76 was eight shots better than his first-day score. Freshman Matt Solis shaved seven strokes off his opening round with a 75 on Tuesday.

Tyler Junior College and Western Texas CC tied for second place, one shot behind McLennan. McLennan's Anderson easily won the overall title with a score of 141, six shots ahead of teammate Juan Salcedo.

Indian Hills is idle until going to Marion, Illinois for the John A. Logan Spring Invitational Mar. 28-29.
